Rita's Recollections
Rita came home one day and told her Mom:
"Mommy, Elena asked me if I wanted to participate in a toneel (Dutch for a play on stage)."
Mrs. Sharpe, (whose command of Dutch was somewhat lacking - see Roy's Recollections), answered:
"Whadda gyol wanna do wi' yer toenail?"
"No, Mommy," replied Rita, "not TOENAIL, but TONEEL!"
But Rita's Mom was adamant:
"Well, you just tell dah gyol to keep away from ya foot, ya hear?"
And so ended Rita's dream of a possible acting career, and yes, it was nipped in the bud!! Years later, Rita is still wondering if that's the reason that she chose psychology as a profession . . . . . .
